The Homestead at Whitefish – Whitefish, MT

Sands Surveying, Inc. provided surveying services for the Homestead at Whitefish Development Project.  This project has three completed phases and several more in the planning stages.  The project spans over 1400 acres in the Flathead Valley northwest of Whitefish, MT and has been ongoing for the last eight years.

The project began with a five section subdivision using GPS and conventional surveying equipment to determine the boundary of the subject property.  Title and deed research was completed along with the recordation of certificates of survey and subdivision plats.  Control work was completed for aerial photography, LiDAR, monument staking and construction staking.

Sands Surveying, Inc. designed the development’s lot layout and road system, working around difficult terrain.  The Tally Lake area is known for its cliffs and rock outcroppings.  Aerial and LiDAR mapping was used to aid in the road layout process.  Field crews were also sent out to stake roads for preliminary design to insure the designed location would meet county standards.  SSI took the project through all the planning stages with the Flathead County Commissioners and City of Whitefish including preliminary plat approvals, work sessions and final plat approvals.  SSI also worked closely with the Forest Service for emergency egress access and with engineers for drainage plans and road approvals.  There were several wetland areas on the project that were incorporated into the design.

Sands Surveying, Inc. provided the construction staking for the roads and utilities, volume calculations for gravel, ground topography surveys for building sites and amenities and property corner staking.
